Diesel Fuel System Operation

Although there are different compression-ignition (CI) fuel injection systems in use today, they are all related in their basic operation. The fuel injection systems must use a quality fuel having the correct characteristics for proper operation.

All fuel injection systems must have a fuel storage and supply system that delivers clean filtered fuel to high-pressure components. The high-pressure components must inject the fuel at a pressure high enough to overcome the compression developed in a CI engine.
