The term electronic components tends to be used for those components that have no moving parts, such as diodes, transistors, and integrated circuits Figure 36-48. Each component has a particular function and when arranged in circuits interacts with other components to control electrical and electronic functions. Individual components may be mounted in a housing to operate as a sensor: for example, an engine temperature sensor. Or, many components can be arranged in circuits and mounted on circuit boards to perform various functions. Examples of this would be the many electronic components used in control units to manage virtually all of the systems on a vehicle, including ignition, fuel, and emission systems, as well as entertainment, lighting, safety, and security systems.
